Introduction

Oily skin is one of the three main categories of skin. It is characterized by a smooth and oily sheen to it and hence is full of luster. Due to its oily nature, it is also more susceptible to flare-ups of acne. Hence in order to deal with such challenges we can take some measures in order effectively deal with the problems and also try to reduce them. In this article, we will provide some tips in order to control oily skin.

1. Cleansing of skin

If you have a daily skin cleansing routine then keep it up. However, if you don’t then you need to adopt one now. Oily skin needs more cleaning and you should wash your face in the morning and also at the night. At night your skin is busy producing oil and shedding of dead skin cells. You can use a cleanser that has exfoliating ingredients like salicylic acid.

2. Don’t skip the moisturizer

No matter what type of skin you have it is necessary to moisturize your skin. But in the case of oily skin, you should be alert of the type of moisturizer you intend to apply to your skin. You can select a moisturizer that has the following perks
• Labeled as non-comedogenic
• Does not contain any oil
• Has a water base formula

3. Choose your sunscreen carefully

Sunscreen is important because it helps to shield your skin from the harmful effects of sun rays. You must apply your sunscreen whenever you step out into the sun. In order to counter the excess oil production of your skin you need to select a sunscreen that has occlusive properties such as minerals like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide and avoid those sunscreens which contain oils or fragrances in their formulas.

4. Choose your skincare products wisely

The type of skincare products you apply to your skin must be chosen only after careful analysis of their ingredients. Choosing products that either increase oil production or irritate your skin must be kept at bay for example products that contain shea butter, cocoa butter, lanolin, alcohol, etc.

5. Be careful with your makeup

The makeup you apply should not have any ingredient that has any kind of oil in it. Whether it’s your makeup foundation powder or your lipstick or your homemade mask the ingredients should be decided carefully before any kind of application. Also, you should refrain from sleeping with your mask on at night and remove it before going to bed.

6. Diet

Certain foods in your diet can also worsen your oily skin. Watch your salt intake as dehydration caused by excessive salt intake and consumption of alcohol is countered by your body by secreting more oil, fried foods like bacon, red meat, lamb etc can cause an increase in inflammation levels of your skin, high sugar foods like soft drinks and refined carbohydrates cause an increase in a hormone that cause more sebum secretion.
