Breast Augmentation (Mammoplasty) Surgery in Mumbai: Enhance Shape, Volume & Confidence

Breast augmentation surgery enhances the size, shape and fullness of the breasts using silicone or saline implants, or in some cases your own fat. It’s a highly personalised procedure with high satisfaction — but implants are not lifetime devices, and choosing the right ones means understanding both the results and the real, FDA-tracked risks.

What Is Breast Augmentation Surgery?

Breast augmentation surgery (augmentation mammoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that enhances the size, fullness and shape of the breasts using silicone or saline implants, or fat transfer from another part of the body.

  • Who chooses it — women with naturally small or asymmetrical breasts, mothers restoring volume after pregnancy or breastfeeding, and anyone wanting more balanced proportions or confidence

  • Implants or fat — implants add reliable, lasting volume; fat transfer gives a subtler, natural increase using your own tissue. See implants vs fat grafting

  • Planned with you — breast sizers and 3D simulation help you visualise the outcome and choose implants suited to your body

  • Also called — breast enlargement, breast enhancement, augmentation mammoplasty, breast implant surgery, breast volume restoration

Is a Lack of Breast Volume Affecting Your Confidence?

If small, uneven or deflated breasts affect how you feel, breast augmentation surgery can restore fuller, more symmetrical, natural-looking contours — tailored to your body and goals.

  • Do you feel underconfident because of small or underdeveloped breasts?

  • Do your fitted outfits constantly need alterations to suit your bustline?

  • Have pregnancy, weight change or ageing left your breasts with less volume than before?

For many women, breast size is tied to self-image and confidence. Whether from genetics, post-pregnancy volume loss, weight changes or ageing, small or asymmetrical breasts can affect how you feel in your clothes and in yourself.

There’s a well-established solution: breast augmentation surgery. This personalised procedure enhances breast size and shape using implants or fat transfer, restoring symmetry and a fuller contour. Modern implants and techniques make natural-looking results the norm — and a good surgeon will be as honest about the long-term commitment and risks as about the benefits, so you can make a fully informed choice.

Global & Indian trends (2024)

  • Worldwide, over 1.65 million breast augmentations were performed — the #2 surgical cosmetic procedure globally.

  • In India, around 47,690 breast augmentations were recorded, with demand concentrated in the 18–50 age group.

“Know the basics? Let’s go deeper.”

Breast augmentation enhances size, shape and symmetry, restores volume lost after pregnancy or weight change, and can rebuild the breast after mastectomy or injury — improving proportion and confidence.

  • Adds volume and fullness — to naturally small or underdeveloped breasts

  • Improves symmetry — corrects breasts that differ in size or shape

  • Restores lost volume — after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or ageing

  • Refines contour and projection — for a balanced, proportionate silhouette

  • Reconstruction — rebuilds breast shape after mastectomy or trauma; often combined with a lift where there’s sagging

  • Confidence — many women report feeling more comfortable and confident

  • A lift instead? — if the main issue is sagging rather than volume, see augmentation vs lift

Types of Breast Augmentation How They Differ in Mumbai, India

Breast implants vary by size, shape, shell texture and filler. The main choices are round vs anatomical (teardrop) shape, smooth vs textured shell, and silicone vs saline filler — each with trade-offs your surgeon will match to your anatomy. See our detailed breast implants guide.

Shape

  • Round — symmetrical; if the implant rotates the shape stays the same; can add more upper-pole fullness
  • Anatomical (teardrop) — mimics the natural breast slope, more projection lower down; must not rotate

Shell texture

  • Smooth — the most common shell; moves within the pocket
  • Textured — reduces movement and helps position shaped implants, but textured shells are the type linked to BIA-ALCL (see the safety section)

Filler

  • Silicone gel — softer, more natural feel; cohesive ‘gummy bear’ gels hold shape well; pre-filled, and a rupture is ‘silent’ so needs monitoring
  • Saline — filled during surgery (useful for fine-tuning asymmetry); if it ruptures the salt water is safely absorbed and deflation is obvious; can ripple more in thin patients

“Want to choose the right one for you? ”

How Implant Design Filler Affect Breast Augmentation Results in Mumbai, India

The design, shape and filler of a breast implant determine the final look and feel — matching the right implant to your chest width, tissue quality and skin laxity is what produces a natural, lasting result.

  • Projection profiles — low, moderate or high; higher projection has a narrower base. Moderate suits tighter skin, higher suits looser skin

  • Round vs teardrop — round adds upper-pole fullness and is more forgiving; teardrop mimics a natural slope and suits mild sagging, but must not rotate

  • Silicone vs saline feel — cohesive silicone resists rippling and feels more natural; saline can look firmer in thin patients

  • Dual-chamber — an outer silicone and inner saline chamber allows some post-op adjustment; used more in reconstruction than cosmetic surgery

🩺 Dr. Milan Doshi’s note: “I choose implants based on chest width, tissue quality, skin laxity, and the patient’s desired look. Implant shape, filler, projection, and placement must work together to create a balanced, natural result and reduce long-term complications.”

“Are you worried about the cost?”

Are You the Right Candidate for Breast Augmentation in Mumbai, India

You may be a good candidate for breast augmentation if your breasts are fully developed, you are in good health, and you want fuller or more symmetrical breasts — with realistic expectations and an understanding that implants aren’t permanent.

  • Breasts fully developed — generally age 22+ for silicone implants (18+ for saline, per FDA age rules)

  • Unhappy with size or volume — naturally small, or deflated after pregnancy, weight loss or ageing

  • Asymmetry — breasts that differ noticeably in size or shape

  • Good health — not pregnant or breastfeeding, no major medical concerns, non-smoker or willing to stop

  • Realistic expectations — of a natural-looking enhancement, not perfection

  • Accepts the long-term commitment — understands implants are not lifetime devices and revision surgery is likely at some point

“Wondering if you’re the right fit?”

Why is a Consultation Essential Before Breast Augmentation Surgery in Muimbai, India

A consultation confirms your candidacy, selects the right implant for your body, and sets clear expectations about results, longevity and risks — using tools like 3D simulation and sizers so you can visualise the outcome.

  • Confirms suitability — and the best implant size, shape, projection and placement for you

  • Plans the technique — incision and pocket, expected results and safety profile

  • Covers risks and recovery — including the honest, long-term implant-safety picture

  • 3D visualisation — Crisalix 3D simulation, real before/after photos, and breast-sizer trials at Allure Medspa

  • Reviews your history — weight changes, prior breast surgery, and any family history of breast conditions or cancer

How to prepare

  • Tests — blood work and breast screening as advised

  • Stop smoking; pause blood thinners — aspirin and anti-inflammatories, as directed

  • Disclose everything — all medicines, supplements and allergies

Breast Augmentation Techniques Explained in Mumbai, India

Breast augmentation techniques vary by incision location and implant pocket placement, chosen to suit your anatomy, implant type and goals.

Incision options

  • Inframammary (breast crease) — the most common; hidden in the fold, gives good control

  • Periareolar (around the areola) — discreet scar; can combine with a minor lift

  • Transaxillary (armpit) — no scar on the breast; less direct control

  • TUBA (belly button) — rare, saline only, higher complication risk

Pocket placement

  • Subglandular — above the muscle; quicker recovery but more palpable in thin patients

  • Subfascial — under the fascia; natural support, less movement

  • Submuscular — under the pectoral muscle; less rippling, easier mammograms

  • Dual plane — part under-muscle; good upper-pole fullness and natural results, and useful for mild sagging

“Want expert help choosing the technique? ”

Breast Augmentation Surgery Step-by-Step in Mumbai, India

Breast augmentation is a structured day-care procedure: under general anaesthesia, the surgeon makes a discreet incision, creates the implant pocket, places the implant with a no-touch technique, and closes in layers.

  • Preparation — pre-op checks, surgical markings, anaesthesia review

  • Anaesthesia — general anaesthesia for comfort

  • Incision — inframammary, periareolar or axillary, as planned

  • Pocket creation — subglandular, subfascial, submuscular or dual-plane

  • Pocket irrigation — flushed with antibiotic/saline solution to reduce infection and capsular-contracture risk

  • Implant placement — inserted with a no-touch technique (often a Keller funnel)

  • Closure — layered internal sutures; skin sealed with tape or adhesive. Enhancement is visible immediately

“Do you have questions about the surgery?”

When Will You See Results After Breast Augmentation in Mumbai, India

The enhancement from breast augmentation is visible immediately, with implants settling into a natural position over 2–4 weeks. Implants are durable but not lifetime devices — plan for future monitoring and eventual revision.

  • Immediate then settling — breasts may sit high at first; implants ‘drop and fluff’ into place over 2–4 weeks

  • Final shape — over a few months as swelling fully resolves

  • Not lifetime devices — expect revision or replacement over the years; the longer you have implants, the more likely complications become

  • Monitoring — silicone implants need periodic imaging (MRI or ultrasound) to check for silent rupture; follow FDA/AAD screening guidance

  • Shape changes over time — ageing, weight and gravity may eventually call for an implant exchange or a breast lift; see implant revision surgery

Source: Implants are not lifetime devices; reoperation and removal are the most common outcomes over time

“Do you Want immediate transformation?”

Post operative Care After Breast Augmentation Surgery in Mumbai, India

Good postoperative care — medication, a support bra, wound care and follow-ups — promotes healing, lowers risk and protects your result.

  • Medication — pain relief and antibiotics as prescribed

  • Support garment — surgical bra worn as advised (often 24/7 initially) to support the implants and reduce swelling

  • Activity — light walking the same evening; desk work in 2–3 days; gym in about 2 weeks; avoid heavy upper-body strain 4–6 weeks

  • Wound care — keep incisions clean and dry; shower once discharge stops; no bathtubs early on

  • Positioning — head elevated; don’t sleep on your stomach

  • Follow-ups & warning signs — scheduled checks; call the clinic for redness, fever, unusual swelling, pain or discharge. See implant warning signs

Risks Safety Considerations of Breast Augmentation in mumbai, India

Most women have no serious complications, but breast augmentation carries real risks you must understand — the common ones are capsular contracture, reoperation and implant removal, and there are rare implant-associated cancers the FDA now tracks with a boxed warning.

Common / surgical risks

  • Capsular contracture — scar tissue tightens around the implant, causing firmness, distortion or pain; a common reason for revision. See understanding capsular contracture

  • Implant rupture or leak — silicone rupture is often ‘silent’ and found on imaging; saline deflation is obvious; either needs replacement

  • Bleeding, infection, seroma — uncommon; infection can occasionally require implant removal, with re-implantation later

  • Rippling or malposition — visible or palpable implant edges, or an implant that sits too high/low; more likely in thin patients

  • Changed nipple/breast sensation — usually temporary; occasionally permanent

  • Reoperation — expected over a lifetime, since implants aren’t permanent

Rare implant-associated cancers (FDA-tracked)

  • BIA-ALCL — breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma: a lymphoma of the scar-capsule (NOT breast cancer), linked mainly to TEXTURED implants. It is treatable, usually by removing the implant and capsule, but there is a risk of death if not caught early

  • BIA-SCC and other lymphomas — since 2022 the FDA has reported squamous cell carcinoma and other lymphomas in the implant capsule — rare, but reported with both textured AND smooth, and saline AND silicone implants, with some deaths. Report any late swelling, lump or skin change

  • Breast implant illness (BII) — some patients report systemic symptoms (fatigue, brain fog, joint/muscle pain) they attribute to implants; not yet a defined disease, and some report improvement after removal. See breast implant illness

  • Anaesthesia risks — as with any procedure under general anaesthesia

Risks Safety Considerations of Breast Augmentation in mumbai, India

Breast implants are FDA-approved medical devices, and most women have no serious problems — but they are not risk-free or permanent. The FDA requires a boxed warning on all implants and recommends lifelong monitoring, so an honest, informed decision matters.

  • FDA-approved, but regulated closely — saline and silicone implants are approved devices, sold with a mandatory boxed warning since 2020

  • Not lifetime devices — assume you’ll need further surgery; the longer implants are in, the higher the chance of complications

  • No link to ordinary breast cancer — implants have not been shown to increase the risk of the common types of breast cancer

  • Rare capsule cancers exist — BIA-ALCL (mainly textured implants) and, since 2022, BIA-SCC and other capsule lymphomas (reported with smooth and saline too) — all rare, all treatable when caught early

  • Monitor for life — the FDA advises watching for changes and, for silicone implants, periodic imaging to detect silent rupture; you don’t need removal if you have no symptoms

  • The takeaway — for most women the benefits outweigh the risks, but this is a lifelong relationship with a medical device — choose a board-certified plastic surgeon and go in fully informed

🩺 Dr. Milan Doshi’s note: “Breast implants are not lifetime devices, so informed consent and long-term follow-up are essential. I select the implant according to the patient’s anatomy and goals, while clearly explaining rupture, capsular contracture, rare implant-associated cancers, and the need for future monitoring.”

Breast Augmentation Recovery Timeline in Mumbai, India

Breast augmentation recovery takes a few weeks — most people resume normal activities within 2–3 weeks, with support garments, medication and follow-ups guiding healing.

  • First days — gauze dressing and support bra; discharged the same day; mild pain fading within about 5–6 days

  • Support garment — surgical bra worn 24/7 for the first few weeks to support the implants and reduce swelling

  • Swelling — peaks in the first week, then subsides over weeks; final shape over months

  • Activity — light activity in a few days; normal routine in 2–3 weeks; avoid heavy upper-body workouts 4–6 weeks

  • Follow the plan — sticking to your surgeon’s recovery instructions protects the result and lowers risk

Q1. What is breast augmentation?

Ans. Breast augmentation increases breast size and improves shape using implants or, in selected cases, your own fat. It’s chosen for naturally smaller breasts, volume lost after pregnancy or weight loss, asymmetry, or reconstruction.

Q2. What types of implants are available?

Ans. Mainly silicone gel (including cohesive ‘gummy bear’ implants) and saline. Silicone tends to feel more natural and is the most commonly used; saline is filled after insertion. Your surgeon recommends a type based on your body and goals.

Q3. Are breast implants safe?

Ans. USFDA-approved implants have a long safety record. As with any device there are recognised risks, including capsular contracture, rupture and a rare condition called BIA-ALCL linked to certain textured implants. Your surgeon will discuss these and current guidance with you.

Q4. What is BIA-ALCL?

Ans. Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma is a rare cancer of the immune system — not breast cancer — associated mainly with certain textured implants. It’s usually treatable when caught early. Report any new swelling or fluid around an implant to your surgeon.

Q5. Can I breastfeed after augmentation?

Ans. Most women can. Implants are usually placed to preserve the ducts and nipple, and incisions can be planned to protect breastfeeding. It’s never guaranteed after any breast surgery, so tell your surgeon if this matters to you.

Q6. Where are the implants placed?

Ans. Either behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or partly behind the chest muscle (submuscular / dual-plane). The choice depends on your tissue thickness and lifestyle, and affects look, feel and mammogram imaging.

Q7. Where will the scars be?

Ans. Commonly in the breast crease, around the lower edge of the areola, or in the armpit. Scars are placed discreetly and fade over time. The crease incision is the most widely used.

Q8. Do implants last a lifetime?

Ans. No. Implants are not lifetime devices — many last 10–15 years or more, but some need replacement sooner due to rupture, capsular contracture or a change in preference. Plan for possible future surgery.

Q9. What is capsular contracture?

Ans. The body forms a natural capsule around any implant. In some people this capsule tightens and hardens, changing the breast’s feel or shape and sometimes causing discomfort. It’s one of the commoner reasons for revision surgery.

Q10. Is the surgery painful?

Ans. There’s moderate discomfort and tightness for the first few days, especially with submuscular placement, controlled with medication. Most women return to desk work within about a week.

Q11. How long is recovery?

Ans. Desk work in about 1 week; a support bra worn for several weeks; strenuous activity and heavy lifting avoided for 4–6 weeks. Swelling settles over weeks, with implants ‘settling’ into a natural position over about 3 months.

Q12. Can I combine augmentation with a lift?

Ans. Yes. If the breasts sag as well as lack volume, a combined augmentation-lift adds fullness and raises the breasts in one operation. Your surgeon advises whether you need one or both.

Q13. What is fat transfer breast augmentation?

Ans. It uses liposuctioned fat from your own body to add modest volume without implants. It suits smaller, natural enhancements; some fat is reabsorbed, and it can’t achieve the same increase as implants.

Q14. Will implants affect mammograms?

Ans. Implants can obscure some breast tissue on standard mammograms, so extra ‘implant displacement’ views are used. Always tell your radiographer you have implants, and continue routine screening as advised.

Q15. What are the risks?

Ans. Bleeding, infection, changes in nipple or breast sensation, capsular contracture, implant rupture or malposition, asymmetry, and the rare BIA-ALCL. Choosing an experienced, board-certified surgeon using USFDA-approved implants in an accredited centre keeps risks low.

Q16. Am I a candidate?

Ans. You may be if you’re in good general health, have realistically-set goals, and want more volume, better shape or improved symmetry. A consultation with examination and imaging confirms the right approach for you.

Q17. Will insurance cover it?

Ans. Cosmetic augmentation isn’t covered and attracts 5% GST — and future implant removal or replacement usually isn’t covered either. Reconstruction after cancer may be treated differently; check your policy.

Q18. How much does breast augmentation cost in Mumbai?

Ans. Approximately ₹1,40,000 to ₹2,00,000, rising if a lift is added or with premium implants, plus 5% GST. Book a consultation for an exact quote.
