Gynecomastia Aftercare Guide_ Do’s, Don’ts & Essential Post-Op Tips

Why Gynecomastia After Care Is Just as Important as the Surgery

Think the hard part ends once your gynecomastia surgery is done? Not quite. What you do after surgery is just as crucial as the procedure itself. The first few weeks of recovery can determine the smoothness of your chest contour, how well your scars fade, and how confident you feel in your final results.

From wearing your compression garment to avoiding certain activities, your post-op routine directly impacts your healing, comfort, and outcomes. At Allure Medspa, we provide every patient with a personalized aftercare guide to ensure a smooth recovery and lasting aesthetic success.

Do’s After Gynecomastia Surgery

i . Wear the Compression Garment Religiously

  • Wear it 24/7 for 4–6 weeks
  • Helps reduce swelling, shape the chest, and speed healing

ii. Sleep Correctly

  • Back-sleeping with head elevated is ideal for the first 2 weeks
  • Helps drain fluid, prevents tension on the incision site

iii. Follow Medication and Wound Care Instructions

  • Take prescribed painkillers and antibiotics
  • Keep the incision clean and dry
  • Shower only when permitted—usually after 48–72 hours

iv. Eat for Healing

  • Eat protein-rich, low-sodium foods
  • Hydrate well
  • Avoid processed or salty snacks that can worsen swelling

Don’ts After Gynecomastia Surgery

i. No Smoking or Alcohol

  • Smoking restricts blood flow and slows healing
  • Alcohol increases bruising and disrupts medications

ii. Avoid Exercise and Heavy Lifting

  • Skip gym, sports, and upper body workouts for 3–4 weeks
  • Premature activity can shift the healing chest tissue

iii. Don’t Skip Follow-Ups

  • Post-op visits on Day 3–5, Week 2, and Month 1 are essential
  • Your healing progress is reviewed, and adjustments are made

iv. Avoid Sun on Your Chest

  • Sun can darken new scars
  • Use SPF or keep your chest covered outdoors
